Apple formally opened Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) – the lossless format of Apple for everyone. ALAC is supported on iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac & iTunes.
So now we have two competitive lossless formats: FLAC & ALAC. FLAC is quite popular, but ALAC has the advantages of being supported on various iDevices.
AirPlay technology integrated in Apple devices & third parties are now using Apple Lossless to transfer audio.
