I’m using VirtualBox 4.0.6 and it works great on my Lion DP3 box.
Today, I got the update notification from VirtualBox for the new release of VirtualBox 4.0.8 and went ahead to download & install it. After the installation, I couldn’t create new Virtual Machine, VB simply stops at the black screen and nothing comes out from that. Furthermore, I couldn’t resume my snapshot of existing Virtual Machine.
Looking around, and try to find a workaround, but couldn’t. The comment I found {here} is from an Oracle member who said that we need to wait more time for being supported on Lion.
So the best solution? Stick with your 4.0.6 version on Mac Lion !!!
