Today, I try the next generation of Mac OSX, the Lion. It’s still for developer preview, but everything seems to be in good place. Some of the application might have problems, and one of that is my favorite iStatMenu. After looking around and trying all the guide, I found out the ultimate way to have iStatMenu working on my fresh install Lion box.
Actually, iStatMenu is still working and but toggle is not working because of the problem when writing to the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist . So for the menu to work, you can edit by hand
1. Open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist in a .plist file editor (I use PlistEdit Pro - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/plisteditpro/ )
2. Enable each menu by create a new child under the Root->menuExtras, here a a list of available menu of iStat Menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusBattery.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusCombined.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusCPU.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusDateAndTimes.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusDiskActivity.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusDrives.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusMemory.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusNetwork.menu
/Library/Application Support/iStat local/extras/iStatMenusTemps.menu
3. Save the file
4. Restart the system or you can kill the systemuiserver process
If you don’t want to restart your computer, you can follow these steps to restart the systemuiserver process
- Open Terminal
- Enter the command
ps aux | grep SystemUIServer
- Look for the second column of the result, it will be the ID number of the process
- Kill the process
kill ID_NUMBER_HERE
